The Financial Crimes Unit is the oldest Investigative Squad in the Toronto Police Service, established in 1952. The officers and staff in this unit come from diverse policing backgrounds and are dedicated and knowledgeable. Every fraud investigation is conducted with professionalism and diligence. Most fraud cases reported to the Toronto Police Service are investigated by designated fraud officers in each police station. Citizens can report fraud by visiting a police station or contacting the main Toronto Police switchboard. The unit has several mandates, including the identification and forfeiture of assets obtained through criminal activity. They also lead investigations into corporate fraud and organized crime, including fraudulent marketing schemes targeting the public.
