Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) was founded in 1951 by Ontario police chiefs who recognized the need for a provincial police interest group. Over the years, the association has evolved and expanded its membership to include senior officers and police managers. In 1965, the association changed its name to the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP). Today, the OACP has over 1,500 members representing various police services in Ontario. The association's main goals are to promote competent administration of policing services, coordinate police training and education, provide timely information to members, and address their concerns through a unified voice to the government. The OACP has developed a strategic plan that outlines its vision for the next five years, focusing on increasing membership and strengthening partnerships with the communities they serve. This plan was prompted by the need to respond proactively and professionally to the issues impacting the quality of policing in Ontario.
