The Association Québécoise des Personnes Aphasiques (AQPA) was founded in 1982 and was the first association for people with aphasia in Quebec. Originally located within the Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal, AQPA has since moved to various locations, including the presbytery of St-Denis parish and the Centre des services communautaires du Monastère. The current location offers better accessibility for disabled individuals and access to a variety of services through other community organizations. AQPA aims to provide a place beyond rehabilitation services where individuals with aphasia can continue to develop their autonomy and overcome isolation.
