The Studio for Media Activism and Critical Thought at Ryerson University promotes media activism through community-based research, conferences, media art, academic courses, scholarly publication, solidarity cultural work, and the creation of social justice content for Canadian broadcast and exhibition. It is unique among research centers in Canada as it works to blur the boundaries between media art-making, activism, and theoretical/scholarly investigation in various areas of media studies, critical theory, cultural studies, activism, Indigenous, critical, race, feminist and queer studies, and social justice.
