Pier 21 is a National Historic Site and the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is a federal Crown corporation. It served as the gateway to Canada for nearly one million immigrants and the departure point for 500,000 Canadian military personnel during the Second World War. Reopened in 1999, it is now Atlantic Canada's only national museum and aims to enhance public understanding of immigration to Canada and its significant contributions to the country's culture, economy, and way of life. As Canada's sixth national museum, it collects, shares, and pays tribute to the Canadian immigration story.
