Ottawa District Labor Council

The Ottawa District Labour Council (ODLC) is a prominent organization that has been advocating for the rights and welfare of workers in the Ottawa area since 1872. With a membership of over 55,000 working individuals from 100 union locals, the ODLC is the largest and most influential democratic organization in the region. The council is committed to supporting the principles and policies of the Canadian Labour Congress and promoting the interests of its affiliates. Its main objectives include extending the benefits of collective bargaining to workers, organizing the unorganized into unions, and ensuring equal opportunities for all workers regardless of race, creed, sex, age, colour, national origin, sexual orientation, or political affiliation. The ODLC also strives to secure legislation that protects workers' rights and promotes free collective bargaining. Additionally, the council aims to safeguard democratic institutions, support peace and freedom worldwide, encourage the use of union-made goods and services, and protect the labour movement from corrupt influences. While maintaining its independence from political control, the ODLC encourages workers to exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens and actively participate in the political life of municipal, provincial, and federal governments.
