Ontario Physiotherapy Association

The Ontario Physiotherapy Association (OPA) is a professional association that represents physiotherapists in Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1920 and has since been a strong advocate for the profession. Enid Graham, a Canadian physiotherapist, played a significant role in the development of the association and the recognition of physiotherapy as a self-governing health care profession. In 1993, the provincial government recognized physiotherapists as a self-governing health care profession through the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Physiotherapy Act. The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario serves as the regulatory and disciplinary body for physiotherapists in the province. OPA is committed to providing leadership in physiotherapy by offering advocacy, professional development, and career support services to its members. The association aims to ensure the delivery of quality physiotherapy services to the people of Ontario. OPA follows a set of values in its interactions with members and the public, including physiotherapy by physiotherapists, integrity, professionalism, quality in services, innovation and research, advocacy, accountability, and effective communications.
