Oakvale Green Community Gardens

Oakvale Green Community Gardens is a non-profit organization that was formed through a partnership between the TTC and the Oakvale Avenue Residents Association (OKRA). Originally started by a small group of neighbors, our volunteer group has since grown to include members from both the local community and beyond. We are passionate about square foot gardening, organic gardening, and the cultivation of native plant species. The Gardens are located on private land granted for public recreational use through a contract between OKRA and the TTC. As a result, we rely on the generosity of sponsors, in-kind donations, and the efforts of our volunteers for funding. Currently, we have 40 personal garden plots for growing food, as well as personal flower gardens and community areas for perennials. Our mission is to create and sustain a community garden based on organic practices, grow and potentially distribute fresh, local, organic food, cultivate native plants to encourage local biodiversity, celebrate and educate about nature, and contribute to a sustainable community by reviving and replanting an historic urban orchard.
