The goals and objectives of the Association of War Amputees are as follows:
- Provide financial assistance to amputees for the acquisition of artificial limbs.
- Inform amputees about advancements in artificial limbs and various topics related to amputation.
- Encourage amputated children to adopt a positive approach to life through comprehensive support programs that provide them with tools for autonomy.
- Assist war amputees and severely disabled veterans.
- Ensure the respect of the rights and interests of amputees.
- Provide employment opportunities for amputees or individuals with other disabilities at the protected workshop of the Key Tag Service and elsewhere within the association.
- Serve the public through the Key Tag Service, the PLAY IT SAFE and SAFE DRIVING programs, as well as activities organized by Operation "Legacy".
The Association of War Amputees is a registered charity, founded in 1918 and funded solely through the generosity of the public towards its Key Tag Service. Since its inception, this service has returned over one million lost keychains to their owners. It is even more essential today given the high cost of replacing car keys and electronic devices often attached to keychains.
The support of the public enables the association to offer its numerous programs and services, including the Children Amputee Program (THE VICTORS), which provides financial assistance for the purchase of artificial limbs and moral support through regional seminars.
The association also aims to preserve the Canadian military heritage through its internationally acclaimed documentary series.
We have been supporting amputees since 1918 by providing funding for artificial limbs and advocating for their rights. We strive to improve the quality of life for amputees since 1918.
