Inuit Circumpolar Council

The Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) is an international non-governmental organization representing approximately 160,000 Inuit across Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and Chukotka (Russia). Founded in 1977, the ICC aims to strengthen unity among Inuit, promote their rights and interests on an international level, develop policies to safeguard the Arctic environment, and seek partnership in the political, economic, and social development of circumpolar regions. The organization holds Consultative Status II at the United Nations and holds a General Assembly every four years to elect new leadership, develop policies, and strengthen bonds between Inuit. The ICC has an international office and each member country maintains a national office. In Canada, the ICC is led by a board of directors comprising elected leaders from land-claims settlement regions, Inuit Tapariit Kanatami, Pauktuutit, and the National Inuit Youth Council. The organization is managed by an elected executive and staff members under the direction of the executive director.
