DICED Discovery Cafe

The NSCS Discovery program aims to equip young people and transitional adults with relevant workplace skills, enabling them to find meaningful employment and actively participate in their community. The program focuses on enhancing personal attributes and preparing students for successful careers in the hospitality industry. The dedicated and experienced staff bring real-life examples and experiences to the classroom. Chef Don Guthro, with his extensive culinary background, leads the program and shares his knowledge to inspire the next generation of chefs. The program combines traditional classroom learning with real-life experiences to provide a comprehensive culinary education. Individual coaching is available upon request. The program is fully sponsored and trains students for entry-level positions with potential for further opportunities. The training kitchen is located in a shelter, allowing students to use their skills to provide meals for clients, creating a mutually beneficial arrangement. NSCS Discovery II is a tuition-free program within the North Shore Culinary School, offering hands-on instruction and providing a stepping stone for students to enter the workforce and give back to the community. The program includes a restaurant, "Breakfast, Burgers and Beer," offering handmade menu items using fresh and local products.
