Cumulative Environmental Management

The Cumulative Environmental Management Association (CEMA) is a non-profit organization based in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Since its establishment in 2000, CEMA has focused on studying the cumulative environmental impacts of industrial development in the region and providing guidelines and management frameworks. With the participation of 45 members representing various stakeholders, including government, industry, regulatory bodies, environmental and Aboriginal groups, and health authorities, CEMA aims to protect the environment in the Wood Buffalo region. However, due to a lack of funding, CEMA will be temporarily ceasing operations. As a multi-stakeholder society, CEMA plays a crucial role in advising provincial and federal governments on managing the cumulative environmental effects of regional development on air, land, water, and biodiversity through respectful and inclusive dialogue.
