Avatar is an association that welcomes artists and their projects. They support and renew the discipline by initiating and implementing specific projects such as commissioned works and sound excavations. They also provide residency programs tailored to the needs of the project and artist, offering support and guidance at all stages of creation. Avatar serves as an incubator for emerging practices and a vital resource for established artists. They provide concrete support for creation and production, including access to high-quality equipment and equipped workspaces, specialized advice, collaborative exchanges, and research. Avatar's facilities include professional spaces such as recording studios, control rooms, editing studios, electronic laboratories, and workspaces to support exploration, discussion, and production. They offer a range of constantly updated specialized equipment and cutting-edge production and post-production tools. Notably, they have an exceptional instrument called the Disklavier, an electromechanical piano controlled by a MIDI system that allows artists to create unique piano works. Avatar also provides technical training and customized improvement programs, as well as master classes that offer a sharing of skills and knowledge. They actively foster collaborations, contribute to partnerships within local and international artistic networks, promote the circulation of works, and explore different modes of publication. The members of Avatar are the driving force and reflection of its artist community. Established and emerging artists all contribute to the artistic renewal of the center and the discipline. Avatar, located in Québec City, has been a pioneer in audio and electronic art research in North America since 1993.
