AfriCan Theatre Ensemble

AfriCan Theatre Ensemble aims to use live art to inspire and connect people from different cultures, religions, ethnicities, ideologies, genders, and social classes. Through our work, we showcase the diverse theatrical idioms, traditions, and experiences of Africa, facilitating cultural exchange between Africa and Canada. We not only produce staged performances but also foster international collaborations and the exchange of ideas. We recognize and embrace Africa's creative dialogue with its Diaspora and other parts of the world, and our collaborations reflect this dialogue. By presenting unique African traditions, creations, and techniques in the theatre arts, we challenge the notion of a singular Black experience. Our mission is to make African theatre accessible to Canadians through performances, education, community outreach, and the professional development of classic and new works originating from or inspired by Africa.
